Pashu Chhatralaya

Pashu Chhatralaya: a shared home for a village's cattle

One well-run shed where many families' cows are housed, fed and milked together, and each family keeps its own. This page sets out what Ojas Agriculture means to build, and what already runs.

What works today, and what to plan around

Place pages and day booking run on this site now, for any place published on Ojas. The hostel is a design, set out below.

What works

  • A public page for each published place

Any place published on Ojas — a shed, a paddock, a yard — gets a page on this site with its description, rate, amenities, photos and map, as its operator entered them.

  • Day booking

A calendar of the next thirty days. Pick a free day and book it through checkout, with or without an account.

A place whose listing is not yet published for checkout shows its calendar without a booking button.

  • Bookings in your account

Each booking appears under Bookings in your account, beside the order for it.

What to plan around

  • A shared shed run with a village

Many families' cows housed, fed and milked together, each cow her family's own. The layout below sets out the design.

  • Enrolling a cow

A veterinary check and an identity tag before she joins a herd. The farmer portal page sets out the steps.

  • A portal for boarding families

Care, milk and the monthly settlement for each cow. Your Ojas account holds your orders and bookings.

Ojas Agriculture does not run a cattle hostel today, in any village.

How a hostel is meant to be laid out

Three parts every design starts from: somewhere cool to rest, somewhere clean to milk, and somewhere the dung goes to work.

Zone 01

Shaded, airy housing

Cattle bred for Indian heat still need shade, moving air and a dry, soft place to lie. A long roof with open sides and a vented ridge lets the hot air out.

Zone 02

A clean milking area

Milking kept apart from the housing, on a floor that drains and is washed down after every milking, so the milk stays clean.

Zone 03

A biogas digester

Fresh dung fed to a sealed digester gives biogas for cooking or heat, and the slurry that comes out is manure for the fields.
